Couple Workouts Are The Secret To A Healthy Relationship

The number of adults who exercise with their partner and how this could be the secret to a long and happy relationship.

A survey of more than 7,600 adults published by Decathlon in the Decathlon Activity Index, revealed 43% of those surveyed have exercised with their partner – with more than half (66%) saying that working out together has improved their relationship.

51% of those surveyed say exercising with their partner has had a positive impact on their relationship, while 53% say they enjoy spending quality time together – showing time spent in the gym or playing sport is still valuable time as a couple.

More than 1 in 5 (21%) said it made them feel more attracted to their partner and the same amount also said they enjoy watching their other half work out.

Working out as a pair also encouraged Brits to maintain a healthier lifestyle, as 22% said they exercise as a couple to stay in better shape, while a similar number (21%) said it reduces their stress levels.

The research further revealed the top sports British couples enjoy together, with swimming taking the top spot for 37% of recipients. More than 1 in 4 (29%) enjoy exercising as a couple in the gym, while 24% prefer running.

More than 1 in 5 like to cycle with their other half and 15% enjoy playing tennis as a couple.

Joshua Gutteridge, sports manager at Decathlon commented: “It’s interesting to learn that such a high proportion of Brits are exercising with their partners, especially when there are so many positive outcomes linked to working out as a pair. Having someone there to motivate you during your workout will push you to greater lengths and help you meet fitness goals faster.

“But it’s not just the physical benefits that exercising as a couple is having, with a large number saying that working out together is having a positive impact on their relationship – meaning this could be the secret to a happy and healthy. So, if you’re struggling to find the time to spend quality time together, exercise is still a great way to enjoy time with your partner whilst also feeling great about yourself  in the process.”
