To celebrate Global Running Day, Brooks invites all runners to make their run about something bigger than themselves by participating in the Brooks Run It Forward Challenge on Strava. The challenge will turn miles-run into dollars-given to under resourced high school running teams through the Brooks Booster Club.
“Last year to celebrate Global Running Day, thousands of runners across the globe joined us to run it forward for the environment, love and the community,” said Brooks SVP and CMO Melanie Allen. “This year, we invite runners to run for something bigger than themselves- high school teams in need. The Run It Forward Challenge is the perfect way to celebrate the running holiday while providing a positive, impactful experience for young runners.”
The Brooks Run It Forward Challenge begins today and goes through June 5. Runners can log miles and, for every 10,000 collective miles run (up to 2 million miles), Brooks will provide a Booster Club donation to one additional high school runner on a team in need beyond those it donates to yearly. Booster Club donations consist of jackets, pants, racing uniforms, training shoes and racing spikes for the team as well as $2,500 in cash to pay for team expenses.
To-date, Brooks has supported 97 teams by donating $1.3 million in performance running gear and cash through the Booster Club, which is just one way the company gives back to and invests in the running community. On Global Running Day, Brooks will share the number of additional schools it will donate to and, in the following weeks, name the schools receiving the donations.
In further celebration of Global Running Day, Brooks will debut the limited-edition Run Happy Launch 6 on May 23. With joyful designs, bright colors and “Run Happy” on the heel, the shoes call on runners to consider what motivates them to run and bring that to life by filling in a blank spot on the side of the shoe to complete the statement “I run for…” The Launch 6 features a new engineered, one-piece mesh upper and internal bootie for a breathable and lightweight fit. The shoe’s BioMoGo DNA midsole and rebounding rubber outsole offer a springy feel underfoot while a Midfoot Transition Zone gets the runner from heel to toe quickly.
