The Kamado Joe range are all extremely versatile, unique and beautiful in design. Not only can they be used for grilling and smoking but Kamado Joe has a number of unique and products such as the DoJoe pizza stone attachment, which turns the grill into a traditional stone fired pizza oven. This is by virtue of the excellent heat retention properties of the ceramic shell that mean temperatures of up to 750°F can be achieved in any Kamado Joe grill. Also, due to the precise control of airflow (and thus temperature) afforded by the vent system, Kamado-style grills can be used to roast, smoke, bake and sear food, meaning one grill with infinite options.
Using an ancient, Asian-style grill, the kamado is a thick-walled cooker that imparts rich, smoky flavour to meats, fish and vegetables. The design allows air to flow through the grill’s ceramic body and out its vented dome, lump wood charcoal comes to life as smoke and heat. Kamado Joe® is proud to draw on that tradition, modernising the grill’s classic style with unparalleled craftsmanship, innovative accessories and a range of flexible cooking surfaces.
The name "kamado" is the Japanese word for "stove" or "cooking range". The kanji character for "kamado" is 竈. In hiragana, "kamado" is written かまど. In katakana, it is written カマド. In romaji, it is written kamado. Literally, it means "place for the cauldron". The word has become a generic term for this style of ceramic cooker.
