Amunra – The Cleverest Coffee In The World

Amunra is a brand-new performance coffee developed by leading sports scientists and performance nutritionists to maximise both performance and recovery.

It is the only scientifically designed coffee, containing the optimal dosages of caffeine and polyphenols.

Amunra fits into your lifestyle whether you are an athlete, fitness enthusiast, or just enjoy a good cup of coffee.

It is crafted to deliver the optimal clean caffeine hit (180mg+- 10mg) for maximum performance. It also contains an average 160mg of recovery enhancing polyphenols which means you’ll feel fewer aches and pains after exercise.

Amunra has been developed by elite sports therapist Mark Holmes “Caffeine is one of the most effective and commonly used tools to improve performance.

Caffeine helps you exercise harder for longer and reduces your perceived difficulty of exercise. The problem with coffee is that caffeine levels can vary hugely between cups.

Some cups might not be much stronger than a tea and others could be four or five times as strong.

When working with professional sports teams we needed a way to ensure the amount of caffeine players were receiving was accurate.

We designed Amunra and tested it at Sheffield Hallam University to give the optimal dose of caffeine.

With Amunra you can be sure you’re getting an exact dose of caffeine, so whether you’re an athlete, fitness enthusiast or gym-goer, or even an office worker, you know exactly how much you’re getting.”

Coffee also contains organic compounds called polyphenols and these are becoming increasingly noteworthy in the sports performance area.

They help to reduce inflammation and stress caused by exercise and also reduce delayed onset muscle soreness.

Polyphenols also help to improve blood flow and recovery time and Amunra’s specific blend of coffee beans means it is very high in polyphenols and can really help recovery.” says Dr Mayur Ranchordas, sports scientist at Sheffield Hallam University.

Amunra offers a top-quality aroma and flavour. The signature blend of hybrid Arabica and Canephora coffee beans from Costa Rica and Columbia have been carefully selected and slowly roasted.

This enhances their flavour and delivers smooth dark chocolate, sweet molasses, toasted hazelnuts and a hint of spice.

Amunra can be easily swapped in for your usual morning coffee and give you the hit you need to get going.

Whether you’re a competitive athlete, fitness enthusiast or just a busy office worker, Amunra will give you the optimal doses of caffeine and polyphenols to boost your performance and improve your recovery, making it the cleverest cup of coffee in the world.

Amunra costs £17.99 for 500grams, and is available to buy at: www.amunrauk.com

We spoke with the guys at Amunra to get the full low down on their coffee and how it can help in our physical training.

How is Amunra superior to regular coffee?

Amunra coffee has been expertly crafted using superior beans specifically selected for their qualities, containing high caffeine and high polyphenols. It is the only coffee that delivers a scientifically measured dose of performance enhancing caffeine and polyphenols.

Caffeine levels can range hugely in normal coffee, Amunra contains 180mg+- 10mg per serving, the optimal dose for performance. Polyphenols are also found naturally in coffee, Amunra contains a high dose of 160mg+- 10mg per cup.

What are Polyphenols? What do they do specifically for recovery?

Polyphenols are found mainly in plant compounds and have many excellent health benefits such as helping digestion, boosting brain health, protecting against heart disease and Type 2 Diabetes, and reducing inflammation.

Foods such as red wine, dark chocolate, berries, tea and coffee contain polyphenols.  Studies have shown that polyphenols can reduce inflammation, enhance recovery and reduce delayed onset muscle soreness.

When is the optimum time to drink Amunra pre workout?

Studies have shown that caffeine can be taken as little as 20 min before, and up to 90 min before exercise. The majority of the studies show that plasma caffeine levels stay elevated for up to three hours after consumption.

What is the physiological response to a cup of Amunra in the body? How is it going to make me feel?

Amunra will prepare your body to perform at a higher level. It will energise and invigorate you, giving you focus and concentration for what lies ahead.

The caffeine will stimulate your central nervous system, elevating your heart rate and increasing blood pressure, while the polyphenols will improve blood flow. Caffeine also reduces the rate of perceived exertion, so you find exercising feels easier.

What is the maximum dose?

Recent evidence suggests that we all metabolise caffeine in a different way depending on which caffeine genotype variant we carry suggesting that the limit per day would depend on the genotype one carries.

Nevertheless, it has been reported that drinking 3-4 cups of coffee per day may do you more good than harm.

Can Amunra replace my regular coffee?

Yes, Amunra can simply be swapped out for your regular coffee grounds or beans.

I am sensitive to caffeine, can I still have it?

Yes, Amunra is completely safe. If you are very sensitive, we would advise starting with no more than one cup in the morning and generally recommend that you do not have it close to bedtime as this could affect your sleep.

The half-life of caffeine is approximately 3-5 hours, so half the caffeine ingested remains after this time.

Do you have to drink it after exercise as well?

No, you don’t have to. One cup before exercise is sufficient to receive the recovery benefits and it is not required to have another coffee after exercise.

However if you want to you can, and studies have found that caffeine consumed with carbohydrate actually enhances glycogen re-synthesis . Try making a cappuccino or latte with milk to make an excellent recovery drink packed with protein and polyphenols.

Is coffee a diuretic?

This is a myth, it has been shown that coffee does not act as a diuretic and in fact provides similar hydrating qualities to water when consumed by regular coffee drinkers.
