The 6th May, also known as No Diet Day, is the one day of the year you’re apparently allowed to enjoy glorious no-dieting freedom.
Nutritionist, Dr Marilyn Glenville (www.glenvillenutrition.com) is adding to her literary portfolio this year with her brand new book Natural Alternatives to Dieting. With over 40 years of clinical practice, Dr Glenville knows that DIETS DO NOT WORK and she has shared three reasons on why this is, below…
1. You’re slowing down your metabolism
“As you reduce your food intake as part of a weight-loss diet, your body immediately panics and puts itself on ‘famine alert’.
You’re giving it the impression that food is scarce and therefore it slows down your metabolism to get the most out of the small amount of food it is receiving. If you eat little and often, your body will relax, knowing that food is plentiful.
It won’t feel the need to store any excess in case there is a shortage and it so it can keep your metabolism at a good level.”
2. “Your mind and body will win in the end
Trying to lose weight rapidly by crash dieting is going against all your body’s programming. You simply can’t tell your body that it’s OK, that dieting will be good for it in the long term.
Dieting requires you to be in a biologically unnatural state in which energy intake is less than energy expenditure. Your mind and body quickly hear alarm bells and will resort to strong tactics to persuade you to eat normally.“
3. The source of the calorie is more important than the number
“If the calories you take into your body through food and drink are less than those you use up by bodily activity and exercise, then you will lose weight – right? Although this is part of the story, it isn’t that simple.
The source of the calorie is also an important factor in this equation. We need to look at where our calories come from – whether it’s from fat, protein or carbohydrate. Not all calories are equal. Whether food is burned or stored is determined by a number of chemical reactions which are activated by enzymes.
Not all types of food, however, are easy to convert into energy and when the body can’t do this, it stores the calories as fat.”
Change your mindset…
“If you’re a yo-yo dieter or are simply fed up of counting calories and following fad diets, Natural Alternatives to Dieting (£9.97, Amazon) shows you how to lose weight without dieting, so that you end up with a way of eating that becomes a way of life.”
Dr Marilyn Glenville uses in-depth research to shed light on dieting trends that don’t work and what you can do that really does work.
She also shares her expertise on how you can take more effective and realistic steps through not dieting; in order to become your healthiest version and feel comfortable in your own skin!
